An anonymous person is emailing him clues which lead him to the mountains of Southern California and a woman named Pippa James. According to his source, Pippa once performed as Syrene. A teenage phenomen who had millions of fans, Syrene lead a very destructive lifestyle until she disappeared from the public eye abruptly. Dylan isn't sure he believes she is Syrene but he wants to do a show based on Pippa's story.
Pippa James is a famous children's book author who shuns publicity and very few people in her small town know anything about her past. What they do know is that Pippa has brought jobs back to the community and they will protect her from anyone seeking to invade her privacy.
Dylan's search for his son will soon include Pippa and an effort to discover who the anonymous source is.
What Dylan finds in Pippa is not just information about his son, but a woman who is afraid to share herself with anyone. As he breaks down the walls she has built around her heart, they will find their lives intertwined in ways beyond what either thought would ever happen. This book starts out reading like a traditional romance and I was beginning to wonder where the paranormal element was. The paranormal element is a minor part of the story since we have the search for Dylan's son, Pippa's journey of discovery, and their efforts to track down the informant.
Once I got into THE LURE OF SONG AND MAGIC, it was hard to put down. Ms. Rice weaves the various parts of the plot together skillfully; keeping the reader eager to find the next clue. The story is engrossing with just a touch of magic about it. I can't wait for the next book.
