The silence in this small Texas town is shattered after three murders occur in four days. Liliana Rodriguez and Cody Jackson team up to find the killer, or killers. Liliana is a police detective with the Durango, Texas, police department. Cody is a Texas Ranger and has just relocated from Houston with his son. He is trying to build a new life here. Cody isn't even officially on the job when the first murder occurs, but he is drawn into the investigation.

The three murders do not have the same MO, but all their leads seem to tie them together. Liliana and Cody discover that all of the deceased are illegal immigrants from Mexico. As they are investigating these murders, they stumble upon another crime that could be tied in with the murders. Some caves are discovered where outlaws are smuggling guns through them and under the Rio Grande into Mexico. Their sting only yields the smugglers, not the higher-ups who are running the smuggling ring. Now Liliana and Cody have another case to solve.

Things get really dicey two weeks later when a fourth murder occurs, right on the front porch of the victim with Liliana and Cody standing there. This seems to be the work of a sniper, matching the MO of the third murder. Furthermore, both characters are challenged with trying to do their job while having to deal with crises that are happening in their personal lives and separating those crises from their professional life. Could their lives get any more complicated?

This delightful story is full of suspense and filled with a plethora of characters: good guys, bad guys and some that you are just not sure where they fall. Margaret Daley gives us a great inspirational with endearing main characters who add a little romance to the mix as well. She brings in social injustices that some of the characters are dealing with and develops those topics in a very sensitive and informative way. SHATTERED SILENCE is the second book in the Men of the Texas Rangers series. It's an excellent novel and I would highly recommend it to anyone who enjoys some good inspirational suspense.
