YANKEE IN ATLANTA takes place during the American Civil War... 1864 to be exact. Soldier Caitlin McKae, yes, Caitlin, a very young women is wounded in battle serving in the Union Army. In every way possible she convinced the Union Army that she was a young man. She now finds herself in Georgia wounded by the Confederates army, with a a doctor who has not only found out she's a women, but that she was in the Union Army, but keeps his silence.

Caitlin starts making a new secret life for herself in Atlanta and lucky for her, being an immigrant, she has an accent which helps to cover her loyalty to the Union. She was trained to be a teacher, so she accepts a postion as governess with Noah Becker. Noah is a German Immigrant and an attorney in Atlanta, but when his new homeland is in danger from the Union Army, he enlists with the Rebel Army, but that leaves Caitlin and Noah's daughter behind after all three of them have become so very close.

As the Union Army comes closer to Atlanta, Caitlin finds many ways for her and Noah's daughter to survive and she even considers going up North to her family, but the travel during war time would be dangerous. Noah has given strict instructions to Caitlin to let anyone into their home who are homeless or need comfort, but survival becomes even harder as more people come to stay at Noah's home. Some of the newcomers are helpful to Caitlin, but there is one who can be a great danger to not only Caitlin and Noah, but more so to Noah's daughter.

While Noah battles against the Union soldiers, Caitlin battles to keep everyone safe in Noah's home, mainly his daughter who she has so much love for now. Caitlin chances an escape with Noah's daughter, but is stopped in her tracks. She is arrested for being a spy for the Union, but will that keep Caitlin locked up behind bars for long? Will Noah's daughter not survive without her? Will Noah make it out of this horrible war alive?

I give thumbs up for Jocelyn Green, who wrote YANKEE IN ATLANTA. I admire and respect an author such as Jocelyn Green, for even though the read is fiction, she has worked very hard on writing as much truth about characters, the war itself, and those who loved and lost so very much finally resulting in the birth of a unified nation, The United States of America. I could not put YANKEE IN ATLANTA down. I loved it!
