Derrick, the manager of the riding stable, doesn't just offer training - he's written a book on horse genetics and coat colours. He's interested in mature ladies, not teen girls. Melody catches his eye. But she's edgy about the whole situation - not helped by the bitterly accusative texts from her ex - and doesn't know how to respond.

I hadn't read anything quite like this previously, though I'd read a novel about a couple of ladies raising their children, and if anybody is unsure what to think of the situation I would encourage them to read about this quite normal little family. The world is growing more complicated, and all we can be sure of is that people will still be people. The language is straightforward, the gentle romance can be read without blushing. We come to admire Melody a great deal. I'll let you make up your minds how the tale should end, but I was entirely satisfied with the outcome.

I'm looking forward to reading more of Caitlin Ricci's works. HORSE CRAZY is a nice short story and a classy read.
