Rebecca Fine is just not having a good day -- or for that matter a good year if you hear her tell it. Her love life is on hold, her career isn't challenging and her friends and family are driving her crazy. Rebecca seems to be on a collision course with life in general. Even when mister gorgeous, too good to be true, comes into the picture in the person of Max Stoddart Rebecca is still bombarded with one disaster after another. Nothing life threatening but totally life embarrassing -- put a paper bag over your head -- embarrassing. The question keeps popping into your mind -- how does she always seem to be in the wrong place at the wrong time and how does a seemingly intelligent, well educated woman get so disheveled at all the most inopportune moments. In short if something weird is about to happen to someone then that someone is Rebecca. Luckily she has a remarkable sense of humor albeit self deprecating but we are talking about a laugh out loud British comic streak. She comes by it rather naturally as we get to know her family, in particular her grandmother Rose. Rose is a typical Jewish grandmother with a slightly odd trait of taking information too literally. Her reference to a friend with a colostomy bag as Semi Colon is a perfect example. Rose is determined to see Rebecca happily married and every now and again plays match maker with usually unfortunate results. And then there's Lipstick who is engaged to Rebecca's dad Stan. I'm not even going to start on that one.

Sue Margolis has taken a little story about a woman's search for love, career and happiness and turned it into a series of one-liners - British one-liners to boot. If you didn't think the Brits have a sense of humor or comic timing then you have to read this book. The main character, Rebecca Fine, is a walking example of Murphy's Law and you will find yourself thinking or perhaps saying out loud -- Oh No not again. Great fun. Enjoy.
