The Detective Gemma Monroe series has been on my radar for a while and I was thrilled to get the chance to read the latest book, LOST LAKE. The book may be the third in the series, but as a new reader, I felt at ease with both the story and its characters right from the start. It was easy to get into the book and the writing was enjoyable. I found the legend surrounding the lake to be quite interesting, and the deaths attributed to the lake and the history of the founding fathers of the town intrigued me the most throughout the novel. As for the case, it just didn't do the trick for me. I was actually surprised that more wasn't done to find the woman missing in the woods, and when the outcome is finally revealed, I wasn't that surprised by it. Additionally, Gemma Monroe is a clearly a good cop, but at the same time, she just didn't really grab my interest as much as I expected. That being said, it's an interesting mystery novel, and I did want to see everything come to a satisfying conclusion.

I would say that LOST LAKE is perfect if you like small town crime books, or if you are already a fan of the Detective Gemma Monroe series. I do think I will check out the other books in the series to see if they work better for me!
