Caroline Collier, forced to take a leave of absence from work due to health reasons, returns to her family's home on Lake Ophelia. The beauty and serenity of the lake she craves is interrupted by the love/hate relationship Caroline shares with her mother. They are also still grieving the loss of Jude, Caroline's brother, 13 years ago.

Drew Reed, and his daughter, Jewel, have come to Lake Ophelia to begin a new life. Just three years ago, Drew lost his wife, Shelby, who was also a childhood friend of Caroline's. Drew has traded in being an attorney to build furniture and run his mother-in-law's store.

With everyone mourning a loss, it takes the insight of Jewel to breakdown the barriers so the healing can begin. Jewel stumbles upon her mother's diary and discovers not only who her mother was, but learns more about her relationships with Jude and Caroline. Their lives will forever be changed as they come together like a beautiful pattern on a quilt.

PIECES OF THE HEART is a heartwarming story with strong, beautiful characters. Ms. White writes with passion and sensitivity and keeps you intrigued with the many past secrets as they're revealed in each chapter. This is another excellent addition to my library.

Book Summary

To escape the stress from her all-consuming job as an accountant, Caroline Collier joins her overbearing mother at the family's vacation home in the mountains of North Carolina. But the serene beauty of Lake Ophelia cannot heal Caroline's heart, which is still broken by the loss of her younger brother, who died when she was seventeen. And the tension between her and her mother still simmers. Only their neighbors, the husband and daughter of one of Caroline's childhood friends, seem able to penetrate her cool reserve, giving Caroline the courage to face her biggest fears-and dive headfirst into life.
