Book Summary
In thirty-three parables, master storyteller David Davis retells age-old lessons about life, fairness, and honesty with a Texas twist. From classic stories, such as "The Goose that Laid the Golden Eggs," to new western legends, like "The Cowpoke Who Fooled His Friends," this collection teaches children the importance of telling the truth and treating everyone with respect. Every short story ends with a summary of the moral learned, and colorful illustrations make each tale an adventure for all readers. From the beautiful prairie godmother who grants wishes in the Guadalupe River to the sneaky coyote who tricks all the animals he encounters, every character adds Texas magic and humor to these timeless fables.
David Davis, known for his keen sense of humor and lyrical style, has written several titles in Pelican's Night Before Christmas Series, including Redneck Night Before Christmas, Trucker's Night Before Christmas, and Nurse's Night Before Christmas. His books Ten Redneck Babies and Jazz Cats were both named to the Children's Choice Top 100 List. A finalist for the Texas Golden Spur Award, Jazz Cats was also a selection of the Accelerated Reader Program. Davis has published pen-and-ink artwork, cartoons, poems, humor, and short stories in various magazines and newspapers. He is the author of Rock 'n' Roll Dogs, Texas Mother Goose, and Texas Zeke and the Longhorn. He won the Mississippi Press Association award in 1996 for his political cartoons. An active speaker and presenter, Davis lives in Forth Worth, Texas.
