A world-famous horror author needs a little R&R and is on vacation in Star City, Utah. But his plans take a turn for the worse when he discovers an abandoned ski boot on the slopes with a human foot inside. Marion Henry, part-time employee of the Rescued Word and Clare’s niece, knows what to do and quickly alerts the police.

The owner of the disembodied foot remains a mystery until Clare receives a truck of special typewriters from an old high school friend, Lloyd Gavin. When she tries to track down Lloyd to thank him, she discovers he’s recently gone missing. And when a back-country skier comes across Lloyd’s murdered body, minus a booted foot, Clare must track down a killer before another victim is wiped out.
